First I would like to send out a huge thank you to
for the gift of DA subscription. You are amazing, THANK YOU!!! <3
I had a talk with a great artist friend of mine a while ago. We were sharing our dreams and I was telling him how much I wanted to work as a professional freelance artist in the gaming and cover illustration field. I always thought that that was the ultimate goal. But after I was finished gushing over what I thought I wanted, he asked me a very simple question. He asked me something you would think I would have thought of but I hadn't really entertained because I was either blindly following that one goal or I thought it was too crazy an idea to ever be a reality for me, and that was "Wouldn't you rather just do the art that YOU want to do for a living?". I kind of shrugged it off at the time because it didn't seem realistic, but the more I think on it the more it seems pretty obvious that that would be the optimal goal and maybe just maybe it was something I could dream of as well. I see many artists pursuing this avenue recently. Amazing supporters through platforms like Patreon and Kickstarters are able to help make the dreams of those artists a reality. Don't get me wrong, I would still adore working as a professional in the industry, but it is not the only goal anymore. I want to make a living doing art that I
want. I think that art that you are passionate about, that came from you 100% is something you will put your heart and soul in. It will be the best you create because you love it. I don't think I am ready yet for Patreon (I still need some more artistic growth before I believe anyone would want a tutorial from me), but I do want to do a project that I can focus on painting what I love, and hopefully it will resonate with others and they will want to share in it as well ^.^
So I am now starting the largest project I have ever taken on, and I am my own art director. I will be painting a 12 month calendar of Faries based on the Zodiac. Because I
want to. I would be delighted if you would come on this journey with me. I will be posting often on my Blog
with the Wips and thoughts on the pieces, and I would be more than happy to hear your thoughts as I work. I am aiming to have them all done and ready by the end of the summer, and to have a September Kickstarter campaign for the calendars, timelapse videos, and other goodies featuring the art. I am soo excited! I feel more motivated than I have in a long time, and I can't wait to see if this is successful!
